A Tale from the Maquis

When snow brushes the needles of Bavella,
Corsica holds its breath.
Between Zonza and Porto-Vecchio
rise warm notes of chestnut,
dried citrus, and the hush of resting maquis.

Winter dims nothing:
immortelle still glows,
myrtle casts its aromatic shadow,
and fig offers its soft, velvety whisper.

One night, Lùcia, a young gatherer from the Alta Rocca,
finds a small chest beneath an ancient oak-
warm, hidden, almost alive.

Inside, a trembling flame awakens her:
fresh myrtle tones
mingle with the heady drift of incense,
and a memory of ripe fig
softens the whole.

On the lid, a promise:
“Nature is meant to be shared.”
